Grindelwald
The municipality of Grindelwald at the foot of the north face of the Eiger was the first health resort in the Bernese Oberland which, from 1888 was also visited in winter. Grindelwald became famous through attempts to climb and film the north face of the Eiger. Max Sedlmayr and and Karl Mehringer died in 1935 attempt and in 1936 four other climbers had an accident. Only in 1938 was the first ascent of the north face possible.
Eiger, Mönch und Jungfrau
From Grindelwald you can take the gondola up to the First with a wonderful view of the lower and upper glaciers, from the First mountain inn you have an incredible view of the mountain panorama of the 3 peaks “Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau”.
Kleine Scheidegg
The Jungfrau Railway takes you from the valley station along the north face of the Eiger to the “Kleine Scheidegg”.
with a wonderful view of Grindelwald, from the “Kleine Scheidegg” you have the option of climbing the Jungfraujoch (3,463 m.) to the highest railway station in Europe, or you can hike to the Mannlichen and from there enjoy the view of the Lauterbrunn Valley, the Schilthorn (2nd 970m) and a wide view over Interlaken to the Vosges (France).
